China commits to greater sustainability

November 1st, 2014 / By: / Industry News

A new report by Textiles Intelligence details the rise in the use of bioresins and biofibers in China’s nonwovens industry in the coming years. Published in the latest issue of Technical Textile Markets, the report credits a commitment to greater sustainability in manufacturing and biodegradable products on the part of the Chinese government. As GDP per head and household incomes increase in China, a rise in the use of disposable products, including diapers, feminine hygiene products and medical items, is also rising. These disposable products, made from spunmelt nonwovens, are an increasing burden on China’s waste disposal system, which does not have the incineration or recycling infrastructure available in other developed countries. Bioresins and biofibers, produced from polylactic acid, can be biodegradable and composted. Along with the ability to biodegrade, performance and cost will also be factors.
