In digital printing capabilities, the possibilities are endlessly creative. To demonstrate that point, Roland DGA Corp., a wide-format digital printer based in Irvine, Calif., held a competition to showcase the diverse and original projects produced by Roland users. The company received entries from a range of industries and applications. The three winners of the Creative Awards Contest were StickerCity of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Monster Image of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and SignCo of Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

StickerCity created a holographic, multi-color chrome wrap for a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. The intricate design was created using the Roland SOLJET Pro 4 XR-640 printer/cutter. Wrapping the car proved to be a complicated process because the patterns continued from panel to panel, requiring the application of multiple layers to create the final effect.

Monster Image transformed an ordinary bathroom into a room with a dramatic view, creating the illusion of looking out from atop Copper Canyon in Arizona. More than 120 high-resolution photos taken from different angles were blended together to create this effect. A Roland SOLJET Pro 4 XR-640 was used to print the images.

SignCo created a three-dimensional billboard for the Vancouver Aquarium, featuring an octopus whose tentacles reach out beyond the border of the sign. The 14-by-14-foot four-layer billboard was created using the Roland VersaArt RS-640 printer.
