Hotels, hospitals, fitness centers and other organizations with rapidly changing clientele can count on vats of towels, sheets, napkins, uniforms and a host of other items bound for the laundry. Along with the tons of washable items, these industries can count on paying for millions of gallons of water, despite advances in washing machine efficiency and technology.

Xeros Bead Cleaning, in Rotherham, U.K., is taking a bead on the commercial laundry industry, touting its new system that uses polymer beads to clean large laundry loads while using an estimated 75 percent less water. The beads, specially designed to clean fabrics loaded into the Xeros washing machine, provide commercial laundries with additional benefits. The beads provide gentle and uniform cleaning action, reduce tangled clothing, absorb color and dirt, and separate out from the laundry through the machine’s drum.

The polymer beads can be re-used up to 100 times and eliminate the need for hot water and detergents. Through its Sbeadycare PULSE service, Xeros can develop a customized laundry management program. One customer, Sterling Linen Services, used Xeros Sbeadycare PULSE “to capture $28,000 in rebates from our utility company” for energy savings.
