Gant retires as Glen Raven CEO

Industry News, News | October 9, 2017 | By:

Allen Gant Jr. has retired as CEO of textile manufacturer Glen Raven Inc., with C.G. “Leib” Oehmig IV, a 28-year veteran of Glen Raven, stepping in as his successor. Gant will remain chairman of the company’s operating board.

Gant joined Glen Raven in 1971 and was named CEO in 1996. Gant announced in 2013 that he was planning to retire and that Oehmig would take his place. In the meantime, the company crafted a succession plan, and Gant stepped down this month.

It is the first time in Glen Raven’s 137-year history that someone other than a member of the Gant family has been named CEO. Oehmig joined the company in 1989 and led the construction and management of the company’s 1-million-square-foot Sunbrella fabrics manufacturing center in Anderson, S.C.

Founded in Alamance County, N.C., Glen Raven Inc. is a family-owned company with product sales into more than 120 countries worldwide. The company is active in upholstery, marine, technical shading, automotive, military, water filtration and protective workwear markets and operates national distribution and logistics subsidiaries.
