Woolrich Inc. closes woolen mill

Industry News, News | January 4, 2019 | By:

Woolrich Inc. has announced the closure of its woolen mill in Woolrich, Penn. The fabric manufacturing operations are expected to cease by the end of 2018. Up to 40 employees are affected. The decision was made after a comprehensive review of the company’s overall woven fabric business and the considerable capital improvements needed to modernize and maintain viable operations. Due to higher manufacturing costs, eroding margins and continued unprofitability within the mill, it was determined that it was no longer economically feasible to continue operation. Affected employees were offered career transition services and severance. The company will maintain its wholesale, retail and e-commerce apparel businesses.
