While numerous end-product manufacturers have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by fabricating products that they have never made before, others looked to past products and designs to apply to today’s challenges.
Rainier Industries’ commercial tent division brought back a tent design that was historically used in agricultural applications. With a few minor tweaks to the design, the Endurance Tent can be used for mobile screening, to support social distancing efforts and any other medical and disaster relief needs. The 14-by-24-foot tent features a durable, military-grade fabric and frame, meets the NFPA 701 fire code for occupancy and is packaged to include everything needed for quick installation.
“At Rainier, one of our core values is to be responsible. As a manufacturer, we took on the responsibility to ensure that anyone who needs a tent to help in their own efforts to deal with the pandemic should be able to get one easily and quickly,” says Brian Rowinski, vice president and business unit manager for the Tukwila, Wash.-based company.
Simultaneously, Rainier’s display division designed and began manufacturing full face shields by the tens of thousands. Using 20-ml clear vinyl and only a one-inch thick opening between the shield and face, these items will help first responders and front-line workers protect themselves and others. In addition, the division is producing vinyl floor decals to provide guidance on social distancing in public places, germ shields and acrylic barricades.
