Tidal Vision has introduced Tidal-Tex, a water-based chitosan solution for curing, spraying, dipping and compositing with other materials to provide antimicrobial and fire-retardant properties to textiles. The company claims the chitosan solution, which is derived from a biopolymer found in shellfish shells, is cheaper and as effective as common synthetic, toxic and/or heavy metal treatments and solutions used by the textile industry.
Additionally, the company has developed a proprietary crosslinking technology that further improves textile durability by binding the chitosan to the fibers, allowing hundreds of wash cycles without degradation.
