In memoriam: Galynn Nordstrom

Industry News, News | September 19, 2023 | By:

Galynn Nordstrom, a longtime editor of Specialty Fabrics Review magazine, died on July 14, 2023. She was at the helm of the Review for more than 15 years and used her deep knowledge of the specialty fabrics industry to create a publication of lasting significance.

Nordstrom was quite active in the Twin Cities publishing community, particularly the Minnesota Magazine & Publishing Association (MMPA), where, in 2017, she received the Greg Carey Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteer efforts to support the MMPA. During Nordstrom’s long editorial tenure, Specialty Fabrics Review won numerous publishing excellence awards, and she was known for her commitment to high standards as well as her clever and unusual wit.

“Galynn was first an editorial director for IFAI (now ATA) and then an esteemed Senior Editor for Specialty Fabrics Review. She was respected by the industries she contributed to as well as the Minneapolis/St. Paul publishing community. Galynn was knowledgeable and meticulous, with a quirky sense of humor that got your attention,” says Steve Schiffman, president and CEO of Advanced Textiles Association (ATA).

“Those of us who read Galynn’s words in our magazines benefited tremendously from her passion in uncovering each grain of sand under each and every rock,” says Cherie Schmit, longtime executive assistant at IFAI/ATA. “Those of us who worked with her were lucky enough to experience her wicked sense of humor daily. It took a little bit to ‘get’ her, but once you did, it was so worth it.”

The ATA community extends its condolences to the Nordstrom family. Her visitation took place Sept. 12.
