Nike and Hyperice, a technology company with a focus on products designed for recovery, mobility, and improved muscle and joint performance, have released two pieces of wearable technology: a pair of massaging, heating shoes and a vest that automatically heats and cools the wearer to achieve their desired body temperature.
The shoes feature dual-air Normatec bladders bonded to warming elements to evenly distribute heat and massage the muscles of the wearer’s feet and ankles. The compression and heat aid in speeding up the recovery process following activity or warming up the muscles right before.
Wearers can choose to use the heat and compression on both shoes or they can run the shoes individually with the press of a button. Users can also choose from three levels of compression and heat. A battery pack in the insole powers each shoe.
The vest uses thermoelectric coolers to deliver instant heating and cooling without ice or liquid, helping athletes maintain their desired body temperature during warmups and cooldowns. It has thermal modules whose sensors autonomously monitor and maintain body temperature. An air bladder and pressure sensor inside the vest adjust to the body by pressing thermal modules inward, activating heating or cooling.
“This collaboration is the culmination of years of work between our two brands to deliver innovative footwear and apparel for the athlete with the goal of enhancing their performance and recovery,” says Anthony Katz, founder and president of Hyperice. “And this is just the start.”
