Designtex, a global textile producer, announced the company has become a PFAS-free company, as of Oct. 1, 2024. This step is part of the company’s efforts to eliminate red-listed chemistries from its products. Previously, the company phased out flame retardants and antimicrobial additives from its upholstery products and reduced the use of dimethylformamide and solvents from its coated and printed products. Now, PFAS-treated goods are no longer in Designtex’s inventory, no stain resistance derived from PFAS is allowed in its products and its fabrics are not treated with PFAS-based finishes.
Designtex offers a wide range of products without a finish and also has PFAS-free finishes that provide stain resistance without the use of per PFAS chemistry. Additionally, the company provides proper cleaning and maintenance instructions for its products, including disinfectant compatibility, to maintain fabrics over their lifetime.
For those with questions about alternative PFAS-free stain resistance or how to clean and maintain fabrics without topical finishes, they can contact Designtex here.
