Danit Peleg, an Israeli 3D clothing designer, believes that 3D printing is the key to making the fashion industry less wasteful. In the future, consumers may be able to design and print their clothing at home, customized to their style and size.

Peleg’s process starts with sketching designs, patternmaking and 3D modeling the designs. Then she creates 3D renderings of the item or accessory before finally printing and assembling. She uses various 3D printing methods—fused deposition modeling, PolyJet and multi-jet fusion—and her 3D printing filament of choice is Filaflex, a lace-like, flexible and durable filament made of thermoplastic polyurethane.

She created her first 3D-printed clothing collection in 2015 while studying fashion at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Ramat Gan, Israel. The collection, Liberty Leading the People, won the BIG SEE Fashion Design Award 2021 and featured the first garment that was listed for sale in Peleg’s non-fungible token (NFT) fashion store.

Since then, she has designed several other collections and made the items available for purchase in her NFT store. When purchased, the owner gains access to a digital garment simulation, instructions and files to print the garment at home.

In 2022 and 2023, Peleg received $140,000 in funding from Noun Decentralized Autonomous Organization (Noun DAO), to create a five-piece collection. Each piece in the collection was inspired by “Nouns,” art NFTs from Noun DAO. The collection debuted digitally at the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week in March 2022 and debuted physically at NFT Paris in February 2023.

In addition to working in her 3D studio, Peleg teaches 3D-printing workshops and courses. In 2018, she was named one of Europe’s Top 50 Women in Tech, and in 2019, BBC included her on its list of 100 inspiring and influential women.
