Soccer jerseys made from recycled textiles

The soccer jerseys sported by athletes in the FIFA World Cup this summer were the first by Nike to be made from 100% recycled textile waste. Advanced chemical recycling created the polyester yarn that the company says is as good as virgin material.

The jerseys feature Nike’s Aero-FIT performance cooling technology, which is a highly specialized, stitch-specific knitting process that combines open and closed mesh zones to move air across the body and lift the fabric off the skin. This technology delivers more than twice the airflow of legacy fabrics and is Nike’s most advanced cooling apparel system, the company says.
