Clothing 2.0, a biotechnology company in Conover, N.C., has developed a patented technology that infuses over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, vitamins and supplements into yarn to create reusable garments and textiles. The company was launched in 2023 by Jordan Schindler of Textile-Based Delivery Inc. after the success of its flagship brand, Nufabrx®, a line of contact-activated pain-relief compression sleeves.
Also known as HealthWear™, the FDA-compliant products deliver vitamins and medication through the skin’s pores, offering an alternative to topical creams. Ingredients range from menthol and diclofenac for pain relief to salicylic acid for acne. The wearer’s body temperature and moisture activate the medication/vitamins.
The garments are designed to protect the infused fibers from hydrolysis and oxidation and are machine-washable up to 15 times. Currently, products powered by Clothing 2.0’s technology are sold in more than 15,000 retail stores.
“Creams and patches have been helping consumers for centuries; clothing is the obvious next step to deliver OTC ingredients to the body,” says Schindler. “Clothing is one of the oldest industries in the world, nearly unchanged for millennia; it’s time to leave version 1.0 behind.”
