The Sustainable Furnishings Council is a nonprofit coalition formed in 2006 to promote sustainable manufacturing through controlled carbon emissions, reduced waste, recycled content and renewable raw materials. Victor Group, Saint-Georges, Quebec, Canada, recently became the first textile maker to join the coalition at the Silver Exemplary level. To meet this standard, Victor Group demonstrated that 25 percent of its products are made from sustainable materials; established a Social Equity Code of Conduct for employees; submitted a carbon footprint report; and showed supply chain improvements from its actions. The company received Cradle-to-Cradle Certification from a third-party, McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry.
