The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense awarded AmSafe Industries Inc., Phoenix, Ariz., a $4 million contract for the company’s rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) protection system, Tarian QuickShield, a lightweight textile net used to replace damaged or missing bar armor. The net can be stored in a vehicle and deployed immediately to repair damaged armor in the field without special tools or expertise. Testing in the U.K. and U.S. verified Tarian’s high level of performance and multiple-hit capability under live fire. “Tarian is as effective as the current steel or aluminum, but is so much lighter that it reduces fuel use and vehicle maintenance,” according to the Rt. Hon. Peter Luff, U.K. minister for Defense Equipment, Support and Technology.
