Investment in textile machines on the rise

In 2010, global shipments of new textile machinery recorded a strong up-swing, according to the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) report in May. The 33rd annual Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics report covers six types of textile machinery: spinning, texturing, weaving, large circular knitting, flat knitting and finishing. By far the largest of new spinning machinery buyers were Asian (96 percent), with China, India and Indonesia leading the way. In 2010, texturing machinery shipments soared from 2,880 in 2009 to 63,240; weaving machinery set a new record of 107,000 machines; and circular and flat knitting equipment reached its highest investment level since 2000 at 34,500. Other countries increasing their technology buys included Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, Belarus and Taiwan.
