Ceiling elements create eco-friendly work space

An organization that works to prevent climate change turned to Eventscape Inc. for an office renovation that would create an energy efficient and ecologically sensitive space in a historic building. Sculptured ceiling elements that resemble cloud and dragonfly shapes were utilized as part of several features that were an expression of the biomorphic design. The ceiling elements needed to diffuse light as well as accommodate a sprinkler system and existing columns. The convex and concave shapes required complex templating for the textile to take on the dynamic surface shape. Due to an aggressive timeline, the structures had to be built off-site and installed late in the project to quickly transform the space. Recycled material was used to “skin” the ceiling elements to meet the client’s eco-friendly mandate. The project won an IAA 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award.
