The National Association of Manufacturers implemented the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System, a system of stackable credentials applicable to all sectors in the manufacturing industry. These nationally portable credentials validate the skills and competencies needed to be productive and successful in positions in any manufacturing environment.

The Skills Certification System includes technical and nontechnical skills necessary for advanced manufacturing:

  • Essential reading and writing
  • Applied science
  • Math and problem solving skills
  • Core manufacturing competencies that enable advancement with the evolution of new business practices
  • Industry-relevant education, including skills for production technicians, welders, machinists, metal formers, technologists and engineers

The credentialing partners that comprise the Skills Certification System are:xs

  • American College Testing
  • American Welding Society
  • Manufacturing Skill Standards Council
  • National Institute of Metalworking Skills
  • Society of Manufacturing Engineers

Piloted in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina and Washington, the program is now implemented in 17 states, with plans for deployment in all 50 states.
