USPTO confirms MJS ownership of dark fabric transfer patents

Industry News, News | April 13, 2015 | By:

Arkwright Advanced Coating barred from making, using, selling transfer media intended for use with dark fabrics.

In 2012, Arkwright Advanced Coatings Inc., a division of Sihl Digital Imaging, initiated a proceeding at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), asking it to review whether MJ Solutions GmbH (MJS) is the true owner of the dark fabric transfer patents. MJS currently licenses its patent portfolio to NuCoat.

The USPTO recently ruled against Arkwright, confirming that MJS is the rightful owner of dark fabric transfer patents, protecting technology that involves the peel-before-transfer method as well as image transfer applications that use an opacifying layer.

The ruling permanently bars Arkwright from producing peel-first image transfer media worldwide, and confirms that MJS can enforce its patents against any party that makes, uses, sells or offers to sell Arkwright products.
