Amy Bircher, owner of Westlake, Ohio-based MMI Textiles Inc., recently graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.

10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million initiative to unlock the growth and job creation potential of small businesses across the U.S. by providing them with greater access to business education, financial capital and business support services. The program launched in Cleveland, Ohio, in May 2012 with $15 million committed for small business loans, business education and grants for supporting community partners. The program runs through 2018.

This was the third year Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) received the grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation, helping business owners succeed throughout the state of Ohio. Each graduate spent 12 weeks at Tri-C studying a business and management curriculum designed by Babson College, a top-ranked school for entrepreneurial education.

Bircher was nominated by her peers to speak on behalf of the class, sharing her personal story during the ceremony.
