A few well-grounded statistics on the use of geosynthetic materials at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing:

  • Millions of square meters of geosynthetic liners and geomembranes were installed to help create ponds and lakes, rowing and canoeing courses and swimming venues.
  • To line the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park, 720,000 square meters of HDPE geomembrane were rolled out and welded together.
  • To build the dragon-shaped Olympic Forest Park Lake, 550,000 square meters of geosynthetic clay liner were used.
