This project entailed developing a flame-retardant pad for a glass tube extrusion facility in order to eliminate a safety concern in the facility’s environmental, health and safety engineering department. The pad is able to withstand a 60-pound hot molten tube of glass falling from 12 to 18 inches during a complete production run, yet is able to perform during the purging and cleaning process of the extruder.
