Gehring Textiles Inc., Garden City, N.Y., a manufacturer of warp and circular knit fabrics, recently purchased Tweave Inc., a weaver of four-way stretch fabrics. American-made Gehring knits are popular among aviation, aerospace, military, security, fire protection and athletic industries, and Tweave stretch fabric has great potential within those markets. “We see a huge potential in combining it with our GehringGuard Protective Fabrics in other booming markets,” says Skip Gehring, president of the 62-year-old family business. An estimated 90 percent of the weaving staff of Tweave will remain at the Norton, Mass., facility. Dyeing and finishing operations will be consolidated at Gehring’s upstate New York facilities.
