As companies and consumers increasingly demand eco-friendly product manufacturing, suppliers around the world are stepping up to meet the demand. Fiber and yarn manufacturer Century Rayon, based in the city of Shahad, India, offers many products that meet the human health and safety requirements of OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Century Rayon produces special fibers and yarns for technical uses such as V-belts, fabrics for flexible tubing and fire-resistant fabrics. Additionally, the company offers an extensive collection of yarn stock for processing into different types of fabrics for the clothing and home textiles sectors.

A focus on quality plays a vital role in Century Rayon’s success. The company has been certified for meeting the quality management system standards ISO 9001-9008 since 1995, and the environmental management system standards ISO 14001 since 2007. It also adopted OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety standards in 2007.

The company actively incorporates environmental protection and sustainability measures into its business operations. It had its first products certified according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 as early as 2006. The certified filament yarns it produces meet the strict human health and safety requirements of OEKO-TEX product category II for textiles worn close to the skin. Shri O. R. Chitlange, CEO of Century Rayon, says he is convinced that certifications are a guarantee for long-term success: “In addition to perfect quality, it is almost compulsory today for products to be rated as safe with regard to harmful substances.”

Century Rayon has been investing in sustainable business practices, including preventing or limiting the use of harmful substances in production, compliance with wastewater and waste air standards and optimizing energy use. The installation of state-of-the-art energy and water saving plants in different areas has led to enormous energy reductions in the facilities. Chitlange asserts that these measures represent great added value for the company and its customers.
