Dubai-based Taiyo Middle East LLC, a subsidiary of Birdair Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., will update the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, the site of the 2022 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup.

Birdair has a track record with the Khalifa stadium, providing design and supply of the facility’s PTFE membrane roof system during an early 2000s enhancement. The pending update will feature three Birdair product lines: PTFE fiberglass membrane (500,000 square feet for the majority of the roof), single ETFE film (35,000 square feet for the south leading edge of the roof) and Tensotherm™ translucent insulated tensioned membrane (for thermal performance).

The renovated stadium will seat 40,000 and will host the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and the 2019 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Athletics Championship prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup—the first that will ever be held in the Middle East.
