The Working Group forms to engage lightweight technologies

January 29th, 2016 / By: / Industry News, News

A German Engineering Federation, Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau (VDMA), formed a working group on hybrid lightweight technologies. The Working Group Hybrid Lightweight Technologies will be application-oriented and consider a wide range of materials and industries.

Multi-material design sees materials increasingly being combined in lightweight applications. The Composite Technology Forum will be replaced with the Working Group since the 175 VDMA member firms will concern themselves with composite-metal bonding in the future.

More than 115 interested parties were present for the working group’s inaugural event. The founding board will have seven members. They elected Peter Egger, Engel Austria GmbH, as chairman.

The group aims to match the VDMA’s existing machinery manufacturing skills in lightweight construction, which are not confined to any particular material, with the needs of customer industries.
