The only naturally refrigerated bobsled track in the world, the Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz-Celerina, is located in Switzerland’s Engadine Valley. Dating back to 1904, it is also the world’s oldest track, built for vacationing British guests. In March, the local Cristal Da Glatsch club held a bobsled race to support the track. Racers were outfitted in tailor-made bob suits from Swiss textile technology innovator HeiQ working with the premium Swiss skiwear company KJUS.
The aerodynamic suits were designed to provide superior drag reduction on the way into the bob and down the run where speeds can reach more than 130 kph (80 mph). Each suit is skintight yet still comfortable due to HeiQ’s finishing technology, which minimizes air resistance and enhances quick-dry properties.
The contest took on extra thrills as the CEOs of HeiQ and KJUS, along with the CEOs of bobsled track supporters Comitas and Mia Engiadina, donned the sleek suits and took to the ice. They raced in bobsleds with Swiss world champions, including Marcel Rohner and Cla Mosca. For more information, visit www.heiq.com.
