The United Kingdom is investing more than $290 million to establish the Henry Royce Institute, a national center for advanced materials research and innovation. The institute will enable the UK to grow its research and innovation base in advanced materials science, which is fundamental to all industrial sectors and the national economy. The institute will be based at the University of Manchester and work with other educational and research institutions. The center will focus on nine areas of research including graphene. The research areas are grouped into four themes: Energy, engineering, functional and soft materials.
