Get to know the newest member of the Sunbrella team, Charlie Withers. With 20 years of experience with Taylor Made Fabrics, Charlie joined Glen Raven in June 2023 as the Shade and Marine Sales Director.
What initially drew you to the industry?
I grew up in a boating family and started my career as an OEM canvas designer for boat manufacturers. I worked directly with designers and engineers, and eventually helped develop new products. I love the art and craftmanship of fabrication, as well as being able to create something that will be part of someone’s favorite memories. Being a lifelong boater, and now passing that on to my children, I’ve experienced the magic that being on the water can bring, and love being able to help bring that to others.
What aspect of the industry do you find most captivating?
Once you’re in it, you’re in it for life. You may shift roles, companies, or focus, but you stay for your whole career. And that’s largely due to the people and community overall. The people within this community love what they do – they live and breathe
it, both personally and professionally.
As a former Sunbrella customer, what do you think makes Sunbrella unique?

How would people describe their experience working with you?
I hope people see me as an eager helper, always open to learning and lending a hand. I’m also very solution oriented. Whenever there is a challenge, I’m the first to jump in.
Can you identify any ongoing and emerging trends in the industry?
I foresee a sustained demand for innovative shading solutions across various settings – from homes and businesses to boats and beyond. As boating continues to be more and more expensive, I think the desire to protect that investment with high-quality materials will also continue to increase.

Charlie Withers is the Shade and Marine Sales Director for Glen Raven, bringing a wealth of experience in the marine industry from a 20 year career with Taylor Made Fabrics. Charlie has worn many hats throughout his career, including pattern maker, director of engineering and production manager. When he’s not working, Charlie enjoys spending time with family, saltwater fishing, archery and staying busy – whether learning something new or tinkering with his latest project.
