New RF drying system prevents distortion and shrinking

Products | December 1, 2009 | By:

Problem: Conventional web dryers can produce high drying temperatures, resulting in slower line speeds and high energy consumption.

Solution: The Macrowave™ RF Drying System from Radio Frequency Co. selectively heats only the coated portions on the web, leaving the bound moisture in the substrate intact, preventing over-drying, distortion and shrinking. Capable of operating at speeds up to 1500 FPM, the system needs one-fifth to one-third of the floor space required for hot air and IR dryers, permits lower web temperatures, and provides up to 50 percent energy savings. The system can be configured to handle webs up to 120 inches wide and meets OSHA safety regulations and FCC standards on communication non-interference.
