Manufacturers and importers must list the presence of substances of very high concern (SVHC) in their products if they want to do business with European Union nations. The regulations directing the process are called REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals), and the first brand of antimicrobial fiber receiving REACH certification is Amicor™. The Thai Acrylic Fibre Co. Ltd., Bangkok, Thailand, purchased the Amicor brand from Bluestar Fibres and will now manufacture and market Amicor Pure, Amipure, Amicor Breathe and Amicor Protect. Amicor fibers contain water insoluble antibacterial and anti-fungal additives incorporated into the fiber structure.
