MUTA, formerly the Performance Textiles Association, released new guidance in March 2011 for “Safe Use and Operation of Temporary Demountable Fabric Structures,” the latest version of the trade association’s MUTAmarq Code of Practice. Contractors accredited under MUTAmarq for marquee and event tent installation will have on-site safety training and be better equipped to avoid driving stakes into underground services, such as electrical lines. The revised guidance applies to “fabric structures,” a much wider category than the traditional pole-and-framed marquees. Changes to the MUTAmarq Code of Practice include best practices for stability, electrical work, fire protection, personal protective equipment and fire exits.
