Celebrating 100 years of Review

Features | November 1, 2015 | By:

In its earliest incarnation, the Review began as a newsletter shortly after the National Tent & Awning Manufacturers Association was formed in 1912, and gradually took on characteristics resembling a journal of record for the industry, reporting on trends and important industry developments. It became a magazine with the November 1915 publication of The National Tent & Awning Manufacturers Review, and throughout all the name changes, even as the association’s focus evolved, the Review has passionately served the industry and its readers with up-to-date news and information, and has championed important causes to the benefit of members, readers and the entire industry.

We’ve identified five overarching themes found throughout the publication’s history to serve as a framework to gain a better perspective on the past, as well as to provide landmarks for anticipating the future of the industry. The five themes: marketing, sales and public/community relations; labor and workforce issues; technological changes (new materials and markets); government and trade issues (including codes and standards); and overall industry growth and trends (threats and opportunities). Each of these broad themes is given a separate article in this section and includes interviews with industry experts on how they see these issues now, and heading into the next 100 years.
