Jamboree tents: clean, helpful and thrifty

Projects, Tents | November 1, 2013 | By:

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) hold a National Scout Jamboree every four years, uniting scouts from around the nation for 10 days of outdoor adventure, fun and education. Thousands of scouts, staff and volunteers raised tents in July 2013 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Mount Hope, W. Va., a 10,000-acre site donated to the BSA. An estimated 2,200 of those 10-by-12-foot multi-person walled tents came from an old friend of the BSA family, Diamond Brand Manufacturing, a Fletcher, N.C., maker and distributor of canvas products.

The Diamond Brand tents housed BSA staff and volunteers, and the company provided 1,750 10-by-20-foot shade shelters at campsites. The tents offered a classic Boy Scouts’ look along with modern features such as two screen doors and two full-panel zip doors for maximum ventilation and insect protection; removable tub floor to make the tent waterproof and resistant to bugs; and durable polyester fabric that is flame retardant, UV protective and mildew resistant. Diamond Brand has an 82-year history with BSA, beginning in 1931 with the company’s manufacture of the very first Boy Scout backpack. Read more at Diamond Brand Manufacturing.
